The Power of Vision

The Power of Vision; the power of vision has transformed men from obscurity to greatness following their visionary accomplishments. The Holy Bible recorded that my people perish for lack of vision. Put in another way, my people are destroyed for lack of vision. On the other hand, the Webster’s New World Dictionary defines vision thus “The ability to imagine or for see what cannot actually be seen (a leader of great vision). The power of vision is a driving force towards any success attested to by the people. Not success for mere flowing in money. Successful men define their vision. They hold on to their vision. In their vision, they create path ways to attaining success in a particular area or profession. Associated with men of vision in pursuit of an accomplishment is the power of foresight. Men of vision foresee the end result of the venture they are involved in. They are not perturbed by the challenges or difficulties standing on their way. Men of vision dare to succeed, and begin an action towards any proposed venture. They see delays as opportunities to excel in life. Visionary persons are believers in the words of Sunny Ojeagbese (a Nigerian motivational speaker) that “Adversity goes hand in hand with opportunity that is one secret of success people don’t know”. A major distinction between one group from the other, one institution from the other or one country from the other is the power of vision. Visionary leaders at what ever level are respected. In the case of a country visionary leaders are adored even outside their country. By the power of vision, they create transformational governance. Even when they have left office, they are remembered by generations not yet known. The vision of United States of America today was championed by four men –John Hancock, Richard Henry Lee, Samuel Adams and Thomas Jefferson who led the other fifty two men, who signed the American Freedom Charter on 4th July, 1776. But before this time, the vision which Samuel Adams had, which he manifested in his speech to the fifty six men led the meeting of the first Continental Congress held in Philadelphia on 5th September 1774. A clear demonstration of vision, challenging the British government until United States of America got her independence, a demonstration of vision imbued with courage. If not for their visionary drive, the story of America as told today would be narrated differently. If not for vision, Dr. Mike Adenuga, GCON; a Nigerian entrepreneur and Chairman of Globacom, would not have carved a niche in the telecommunication world. His initial attempt to acquire and operate the Global System of Mobile did not go through as the conditional license and frequencies granted to him in 1999 were revoked, and he lost the deposit of $20million mandatory deposit. However, Dr. Adenuga kept his vision alive in spite of set backs. In August 2002, he bided for the second National Operator and deposited another $20million through Nigerian Communication Commission and this time he won. As at today 2014, Globacom is the only major indigenous and private telecommunication company and in addition the first to introduce per second billing in the telecommunication business in Nigeria, a clear demonstration of the power of vision towards accomplishment.
